The future of Languages

Hi for all .... There are about 5.000 languages spoken in the world today . About half of them may disappear in this country! That makes one language disappearing every two weaks. English is now spoken competently by about 1.8 billion people , almost twice as many people as in any other language . International tourism , media , and multinational corporations have helped to speak english . It is now the dominant world language , and local languages are slowly forgotten . For exmple , 150 years ago in California , there were 98 native Indian languages but now not one of them is spoken . As English become more important , other languages become less important .
Another problem with the spread of English is that some people believe that language and culture are closely linked . As people lose their language , they also lose their culture
